Dates: 1 & 19 October, 10 November 2024

Participants: 61

Session 1 - Book Launch

At the official launch, the three authors shared their discoveries and stories from the book, inviting participants to explore Sham Shui Po with fresh eyes — to see the urban forest within the concrete jungle.

The event welcomed readers interested in Hong Kong’s history, community stories, and the city’s trees to join the dialogue.

Session 2 - Sharing with Early Arborists

This session featured a special conversation between Mr. Choi Lin-cho, one of the interviewees and Hong Kong’s first municipal arborist (former Senior Leisure Manager [Arboriculture] of the LCSD), and Mr.Ken So, Chief Executive of The Conservancy Association.

Together, they revisited the early days of arboriculture in Hong Kong, sharing first-hand experiences from the city’s pioneering arborists, stories of trees interwoven with Sham Shui Po’s urban development, and the evolution of local planting culture.

Session 3 — Sharing from the Community

In the final session, the production team discussed insights uncovered during the making of the book, joined by Ms. Lee Wai-yee, a long-time Sham Shui Po resident and staff member at Half Cup Squat.

She shared personal stories of how people and plants interact in daily life, offering unique observations of the neighbourhood’s greenery and its social connections.
