“Seeing Trees and People – Into the Urban Forest of Sham Shui Po”

Published by The Conservancy Association, “Seeing Trees and People – Into the Urban Forest of Sham Shui Po” takes an in-depth look at the district’s green landscape. The book features interviews with 14 local residents and stakeholders, sharing their personal stories with the trees and plants of the neighbourhood, alongside a comprehensive analysis of the area’s urban forest by CA.Through these stories, readers can catch glimpses of the needs and lives of grassroots communities, uncover the intertwined history between people and trees in the city, and reflect on the many fates and possibilities of the trees around us.
Starting from Sham Shui Po, the book invites readers to explore the trees that line our city streets:to trace local stories through plants,to understand how trees and people shape each other’s histories, and to see our everyday surroundings with new eyes—to see the urban forest within the concrete jungle.
This project is organised by The Conservancy Association, implemented by the Society of Hong Kong History, and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

Sharing Sessions

To help the community better connect with the stories and insights from the book, we invited several of the interviewees featured in Seeing Trees and People – Into the Urban Forest of Sham Shui Po to take part in a series of sharing events. Through talks, guided activities, and creative formats, participants learned more about the urban forest and greenery in Sham Shui Po, and how these natural elements are closely linked to people’s daily lives. In total, the programme hosted 9 events and engaged 144 participants in direct dialogue and exchange.
