Jockey Club Tree Lovers – Bobo with friends: Love Trees Together

The exhibition shone a spotlight on the vital role urban trees play in building a healthier, more liveable city

Dates: July 26 to August 31, 2024

Participants: Nearly 3000

Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the exhibition “Jockey Club Tree Lovers – Bobo with friends: Love Trees Together,” co-hosted by The Conservancy Association and Planet Production House, took place from 26 July to 31 August 2024 at Jockey Club – The Conservancy Association Urban Forestry Green Hub. The exhibition shone a spotlight on the vital role urban trees play in building a healthier, more liveable city. Through immersive installations, visitors could discover how trees help clean the air, provide shade, and ease the effects of climate change — offering a hands-on experience of nature’s quiet resilience.

Thoughtfully curated by The Conservancy Association and Planet Production House, the exhibition featured a variety of tree-themed displays and eco workshops. A highlight was “Bobo”, a 1.4-metre-tall mascot crafted from recycled materials like plastic bottles and cardboard. 6 eco-art workshops invited participants to create green crafts — from paper pulp figurines of the “Bobo With friends” mascots to leafy self-portraits made with fallen leaves — encouraging creative reuse of natural resources.

The programme also included two puppet theatre shows starring The Conservancy Association’s puppet KOL “Ming”, who teamed up with “Bobo with friends” to tackle ecological challenges and explore the deep connection between trees and people. 5 imaginative stop-motion videos titled “Bobo with friends: Tree Treasure Hunt in Sham Shui Po” premiered during the exhibition, celebrating the hidden value of urban trees. Visitors could support the cause by purchasing limited-edition eco tees and cushions featuring “Bobo”, created in collaboration with local recycling and education group Mil Mill. Each item sold contributed HK$30 to The Conservancy Association’s tree education fund, while net proceeds from the tees were intended to help Mil Mill acquire a cotton and linen pulping machine.

Blending tree appreciation with creative upcycling, the exhibition and workshops offered children a refreshing and meaningful summer experience — drawing nearly 3,000 participants.
